Stanford Cardinal Add 2x New Mexico High School State Champion Soren Carlson to Roster (2027) (2025)

Stanford University is gearing up for an exciting future in the pool, as they announce the addition of swimming sensation Soren Carlson to their roster for the 2027 season. But this isn't just any ordinary recruitment; it's a bold move that could shape the team's success for years to come.

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps, the proud sponsor of SwimSwam's College Recruiting Channel, is thrilled to celebrate Carlson's commitment. For aspiring swimmers, representing a college team is a dream fueled by passion and hard work. And Carlson is no exception, as he prepares to make the transition from Albuquerque, New Mexico, to the prestigious Stanford campus.

'I am thrilled to continue my academic and athletic journey at Stanford,' Carlson exclaimed, expressing gratitude to his loved ones and coaches. 'This opportunity is a testament to their unwavering support.'

As a freshman, Carlson made waves at the New Mexico State Championships, claiming two top-8 finishes. He showcased his speed in the 50 free (22.22) and 100 free (48.71), leaving a lasting impression. But this was just the beginning of his remarkable journey.

Fast forward to his sophomore year, and Carlson dominated the state championships, sweeping gold in his individual events and anchoring two relay teams to victory. His times in the 50 free (20.77) and 100 free (45.34) were personal bests, solidifying his status as a rising star. Carlson's team, Albuquerque Academy, dominated the competition, winning nine events and leaving their rivals in the dust.

The young swimmer's success continued into the spring, where he represented Charger Aquatics at the Sectionals meet in Austin. Here, he set personal records in the 50, 100, and 200-yard freestyle events, proving his versatility and talent. Carlson's times of 20.75, 44.98, and 1:38.94, respectively, showcased his rapid improvement and potential for greatness.

Carlson's winning streak extended into the summer, as he claimed the 100 and 200-yard freestyle titles at the Western Zone Senior Championships, setting new personal bests. His times of 52.26 and 1:55.53 further solidified his place among the nation's top swimmers.

But here's where it gets controversial: Carlson's recruitment to Stanford comes at a pivotal moment for the team. In their first year in the ACC, Stanford finished second behind their former Pac-12 rival, California, and also placed second among ACC schools at the 2025 Men's NCAA Championships. The team will soon bid farewell to their top finishers in the 50 and 100-yard events, leaving a void that Carlson is poised to fill.

Stanford has been on a recruiting spree, attracting top-ranked swimmers like Ethan Ekk, Jason Zhao, Maxwell Stanislaus, and Nathan Foucu. Carlson's class is shaping up to be even more impressive, with commitments from four of the top 20 recruits in the nation, including Luke Vatev, Owen Ekk, Connor Christopherson, Yi Zheng, and Jacob Bougaieff.

And this is the part most people miss: Carlson's journey is not just about his individual success. It's a testament to the power of dedication, hard work, and the support of a community. As he prepares to join the Stanford Cardinal, Carlson carries the hopes and dreams of his coaches, teammates, and supporters, ready to make a splash on the national stage.
