Sebastian Stan Reflects on His Career Evolution: 'I Needed to Grow'
Sebastian Stan, the acclaimed actor known for his roles in Marvel's 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' and critically acclaimed projects like 'I, Tonya' and 'Pam & Tommy', recently opened up about his career journey in an interview with Don Saladino's Stronger Podcast. The 43-year-old actor shared his thoughts on the importance of challenging himself and taking on diverse roles throughout his career.
In the interview, Stan emphasized the need to constantly evolve and offer something new. He stated, 'I have to try to offer something different than before. And I’ve never favored one role over another.' While he acknowledges the impact of his Marvel work, he views it as a stepping stone, saying, 'The Marvel stuff... really helped me grow as a person and helped me grow as an actor... It was only the step one for me.'
However, Stan's transition to more critically acclaimed projects like 'I, Tonya', 'Pam & Tommy', 'A Different Man', and 'The Apprentice' came later in his career. He explained, 'This is where I’m finally now, and I’m lucky that it’s happening in my 40s... I needed to grow.' Stan's perspective on his career evolution is influenced by his Romanian background and the time he spent 'getting Americanized' to fit in. He believes that his international upbringing has allowed him to approach his craft with a unique perspective.
At the 2024 Oscars, Stan received his first Oscar nomination and Golden Globe, BAFTA, and Film Independent Spirit Awards nod for his portrayal of President Donald Trump in 'The Apprentice'. Despite losing to Adrien Brody for 'The Brutalist', he also received Emmy, Critics' Choice Award, and Golden Globe nominations for his role as rock star Tommy Lee in 'Pam & Tommy'. For his role in 'A Different Man', Stan won his first Golden Globe, among other awards and nominations.
