Here’s some good news for Pacific Power customers in Oregon: your electricity bills are set to drop starting January 1, 2026. But here’s where it gets interesting—while the average residential customer will see a modest decrease of about 0.7% on their monthly bill, the actual savings could vary widely depending on how much energy you use and the type of customer you are. For instance, a 'typical' household using around 900 kWh per month might save roughly $0.96, bringing their total bill down to $153.28. Yet, as the Oregon Public Utility Commission (PUC) points out, factors like whether you live in a single-family home, an apartment, or run a business will play a big role in how much you save.
This rate reduction is based on PacifiCorp’s annual forecast, which estimates the costs needed to meet customer demand in 2026. It’s also the result of a collaborative agreement between the PUC, PacifiCorp, and local advocates. And this is the part most people miss—this announcement comes on the heels of House Bill 3179, also known as the FAIR Energy Act, which prevents residential rate increases between November 1 and March 31. This means families won’t face higher bills during the winter heating season, a move PUC Chair Letha Tawney praised as a win for customers.
“Thanks to House Bill 3179, customer rates cannot increase during the winter heating season, helping families manage utility bills when they need it most,” Tawney said.
Looking ahead, rates are expected to be adjusted again on April 1, 2026, though the exact changes won’t be finalized until March.
