The Tennessee Titans are making a bold move in the middle of the season! After a sudden dismissal, they've appointed Mike McCoy as the interim head coach for the remainder of 2025. But is this a wise decision?
NBC Sports reports that the Titans are turning to McCoy, a 53-year-old coaching veteran, to fill the void left by Brian Callahan's departure. McCoy's coaching journey began in 2000 with the Panthers, where he started as an offensive assistant and climbed the ranks to become passing game coordinator and QBs coach. His big break came in 2013 when he was hired as the head coach of the Chargers, a role he held until 2016.
But here's where it gets interesting: McCoy's record with the Chargers was a modest 27-37 during their final four seasons in San Diego. After his stint there, he coordinated the offenses for the Broncos and Cardinals in 2017 and 2018, respectively, and most recently coached the Jaguars' quarterbacks from 2022 to 2024.
And this is the part most people miss: McCoy's extensive experience as a quarterback in the league. Undrafted out of Utah in 1995, he played for various teams, including the Broncos, Packers, 49ers, Eagles, and Seahawks. This on-field experience could prove invaluable as he mentors this year's No. 1 overall pick, Cam Ward, who is expected to be the team's quarterback of the future.
So, what do you think? Is McCoy the right man to steer the Titans' ship for the remainder of the season? Will his coaching style and NFL experience be enough to develop Cam Ward into a star? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
