The Lagos State Government recently celebrated a significant milestone by hosting the 5th Annual Food Festival, a vibrant event aimed at nurturing growth across various sectors of the agricultural value chain. This year’s festival took place at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos, and was organized by the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems on a sunny Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) highlighted that the event attracted a diverse array of food vendors and caterers from the Lagos agricultural community. In his opening remarks, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised the ministry's commitment to fostering success within the agricultural sector.
"You have all gathered here as part of this year’s Lagos Food Festival, which stands out as one of the key highlights among the numerous initiatives launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems," he stated. The governor acknowledged the extensive efforts made by the ministry this year to enhance food security, empower entrepreneurs, and stimulate innovation within the food industry.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the festival's role as a platform for families to come together, enjoy a rich display of culinary traditions, and appreciate the diverse food culture. He added, "This festival encourages the catering and food industries, allowing us to narrate the story of Lagos through our culinary arts. Food is a medium where we can showcase our creativity and skills, all while remaining budget-friendly and creating opportunities for young talents. We are unlocking potential and transforming businesses."
Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, further explained that the primary goal of the food festival is to create opportunities for all participants within the food sector. "The Lagos Food Festival, titled Taste Without Borders 2025, marks our fifth year since transitioning from the Lagos Seafood Festival, celebrating everything that makes Lagos unique," she said.
Olusanya noted that Lagos is a melting pot of cultures, and food serves as a perfect representation of this diversity. "As the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, we take pride in being the curators and guardians of our culinary heritage. This festival allows us to honor all contributors to the food value chain. It also provides invaluable exposure for chefs, culinary practitioners, restaurateurs, hoteliers, and caterers, enabling them to connect, network, and grow their businesses."
Additionally, the commissioner remarked on the success stories that emerged from previous festivals, where the governor has actively participated by cooking and sampling various dishes, offering encouragement to participants. "This event serves as a celebration of our collective efforts over the years, recognizing everyone who plays a role in ensuring that the people of Lagos have access to delicious food," she concluded.
