IPL Mini-Auction 2024: Key Players and Surprising Absences (2026)

The IPL mini-auction is set to be a thrilling affair, with a staggering 1,355 players registered! But here's the twist: despite being a seasoned IPL veteran, Glenn Maxwell won't be part of the action. This decision has left many fans puzzled, especially after his impactful 13-season journey in the league.

Mayank Agarwal, KS Bharat, Rahul Chahar, Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Deep, Deepak Hooda, Venkatesh Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, Prithvi Shaw, and Umesh Yadav are the top Indian contenders, according to the auction register obtained by Cricbuzz. The list is a who's who of international cricket, featuring stars from England, Australia, South Africa, and Afghanistan, alongside 1,062 Indians and 293 overseas players.

Maxwell's absence is a talking point, especially after his heartfelt Instagram announcement. He expressed gratitude for the IPL's role in his growth as a cricketer and individual, cherishing memories of world-class teammates and passionate fans. This move has sparked curiosity among fans, who wonder about his future plans.

The auction promises excitement, with a diverse range of players. Australian stars like Cameron Green, Matthew Short, and Steve Smith aim to attract buyers, while Josh Inglis, despite wedding uncertainties, has entered the fray. The list includes English talents Jamie Smith and Jonny Bairstow, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga, and many more. It's a mix of 212 capped, 1,121 uncapped, and 22 associate players.

Among the 16 capped Indians, Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer stand out with a base price of Rs 2 crore. The overseas contingent boasts 43 players in the same price bracket, including Green, the Smiths (Steve and Jamie), Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Naveen-ul-Haq, and many others from various nations. And this is where it gets interesting: IPL veteran Shakib Al Hasan has set a reserve price of Rs 1 crore, while Indian-origin New Zealander Adithya Ashok, a right-arm spinner, starts at Rs 75 lakh.

The auction's global reach is evident with players from 14 countries, including Afghanistan, Australia, England, Bangladesh, Ireland, and more. Even Malaysia is represented! India-born Virandeep Singh, a right-handed all-rounder, has entered with a base price of Rs 30 lakh.

With the retention deadline passed, the 10 IPL franchises have a combined Rs 237.55 crore to spend, led by Kolkata Knight Riders with Rs 64.30 crore. Chennai Super Kings follow with Rs 43.40 crore. There are 77 slots to fill, including 31 for overseas players.

The list is subject to change, as franchises can suggest additions until December 3 and confirm auction participants by December 5. This mini-auction promises to be a game-changer, with so many talented players vying for a spot. But the big question remains: who will emerge as the surprise picks and steal the spotlight?
