Bold shift: Google Gemini is now embedded in Chrome for iPhone and iPad, letting you interact with Gemini directly in your browser instead of leaving it.
Previously, iPhone users could only access Gemini through Google’s iOS app or its website. Now, the assistant is integrated into Chrome on iOS, mirroring similar functionality that already exists on Android and desktop versions of Chrome.
Google first teased iPhone integration in September, followed by a period of testing with select users. According to 9to5Google, the feature is rolling out more broadly as part of Chrome 143 for iPhone and iPad.
The rollout is happening across the United States, but Google notes it may take some time before the feature appears on your device as it is being deployed gradually. To use it, you must be signed into Chrome, have the browser set to English, be over 18, and you cannot use it in Incognito mode.
If Gemini is enabled on your device, you’ll notice the Lens icon on the left side of the address bar switch to a Gemini spark icon. Tapping it reveals two options: one to search your screen and another to talk to Gemini.
Choose the Ask Gemini option, and you’ll see a prompt box where you can type your query, plus a quick button to summarize the current page. There’s also an option to “create an FAQ about this topic,” which extracts information from other similar sites.
You can also access Gemini through Chrome’s Page tools. Each use of Gemini within Chrome shares the page you’re viewing with the AI automatically. If you want to stop this, simply press the Stop button.
Meanwhile, Apple is encouraging users to switch from Chrome to Safari on its devices. Apple’s privacy-focused messaging highlights that Safari offers built-in protections against cross-site tracking, hides your IP address from known trackers, and provides other advanced privacy features that Chrome does not match as closely.
