Hold on to your hats, folks, because the future is here, and it's brought an AI apocalypse with it! Director Gore Verbinski, the visionary behind cinematic gems like The Ring, the swashbuckling Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, and the animated Western Rango, is back, and this time, he's diving headfirst into the absurd. While he's had a few missteps (cough The Lone Ranger, cough), the trailer for his new dark comedy, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, suggests he's cooked up another masterpiece.
Sam Rockwell, a master of quirky roles, stars as the enigmatic "Man from the Future." He stumbles into a Los Angeles diner looking like he's lost a fight with a dumpster, claiming to be a time traveler from a dystopian future. His mission? To recruit the unsuspecting locals for a war against a rogue AI.
But here's where it gets controversial: The diner patrons, understandably skeptical of this disheveled prophet, question his sanity. He reassures them, "I come from a nightmare apocalypse... This is the height of f*@ing fashion!" And somehow, he convinces a ragtag group of Angelenos to join his fight. Judging from the trailer, chaos ensues.
The supporting cast is just as stellar, featuring Haley Lu Richardson as Ingrid, Michael Pena as Mark, Zazie Beetz as Janet, and Juno Temple as Susan. Dino Fetscher, Anna Acton, Asim Chaudhury, Daniel Barnett, and Domonique Maher also have roles, though their characters remain a mystery. Matthew Robinson, known for The Invention of Lying and Love and Monsters, penned the script.
This marks Verbinski's first foray into independent filmmaking, and Tom Ortenberg, CEO of distributor Briarcliff Entertainment, is already singing its praises, calling it "wildly original, endlessly entertaining, and unlike anything audiences have seen before."
Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2026. Are you ready to dive into this wild ride? What are your initial thoughts on the premise? Do you think the film will be a hit or miss? Share your opinions in the comments below!
